Hello all! Wanted to let you know that I will be at the Long Beach Comic Con this coming Saturday, May 12...It's one day convention which is pretty cool.
I'll be located in Artist Alley near my buddy Eric...I think? But I'm listed as Alex Ortiz...not Axel...oh well. :P
If you happen to be free that day swing on by and stop by the table. I'll be selling copies of my new sketchbook, "Japon". I will be doing a quick sketch inside each copy of book that is sold. Prints will be available for sale as well. I will also be doing detail sketches starting at $20...one can place an order of a full commission starting at $100.
Well, I'll hope to see some of you there. Have a productive week. Remember to doodle like a mad man! ...or mad woman? :P
Cheers,
Axel

WonderCon 2012
Hello All!
Just wanted to share with you a few pics taken this past weekend at WonderCon in Anaheim.
Overall it was a good show...myself and my mates at the table had a good time with chatting with the folks that stopped by the table.
But myself and few friends with tables there on the floor did better sale wise last year when the show was in it's home of San Francisco. Hopefully, it will go back to SF next year...but one never know what the Comic Con folks will actually be doing for this event?
My sketchbook, Japon was well received by the folks that stopped by the table and picked up a copy...Stuart Ng picked a a few copies to sell at his store in Torrance.
Got a chance to do a few commissions as well...plus sell only two prints, I'll do better on the next convention. :P
Also, if anyone is interested please feel free to contact me about getting a copy of Japon over to you by pressing the "Buy" button right here on the blog. I'll gladly do a sketch for each sketchbook that's ordered.
Well, I'll catch you later and remember to doodle your buts off!
Cheers,
Axel

Check out Tom's site!
Hey all!
Wanna say, "Happy Mother's Day" to all the wonderful mothers out there!
I wanted to share a link to a buddy of mine's site, Thomas Perkins I known Tom way back in my Sony TV Animation days...he's always been a very cool dude to talk to and just plain cool guy to chill with. I do have to say this guy is a super duper talented artist. When you have a chance please check out his blog....you won't be disappointed.
I happen to met up with last weekend at the Wizard Con in Anaheim. He has these very cool sets of postcards with samples of his art work, all inserted into an envelope ...which he is selling. I bought a pack to show my support...he even did a sketch for me on the back of the envelope. Check it out it below. :)
Well, I'll catch you all later and have a great work week.
Cheers

Child and Dragon

Hey all, these pieces were done as demos for my students. It's Olaaf and Jorge the Dragon. Olaaf is into Black Metal and Jorge is....not. Jorge is a water dragon from somewhere in Spain...whom made his way into Scandinavia...because he likes the cold weather.
These pieces were drawen onto thin chipboard with a graphic pencil. I used a dark brown ink for the washes and use gouche and a white Prisma color pencil for the high lights. Let me know what you think? These pieces were fun to do.
There will be a comic book convention in Pasadena this weekend. Don't know if I'll be attending? Gotta see if I'll have time to go. Here's a link to the convention site, Rock N Comic Con
Well, I'll catch you later.

Back from Comic Con!

Hey all came back from San Diego yesterday in the afternoon. I do have to say it was a very good show...a lot of people in that Con floor that's for sure! I ended picking quite a bit of art books and sketch books and even got a sculpt as well. Had fun with my Lightbox crew and other great folks that I know in the animation and comic book industry. Instead of just uploading a few pics here to the blog here's a link you can use to direct you to the pics I took, Comic Con Pics
Also here's two sketches I included to this entry (that are are above this text)I did in my hotel room while waiting for two friends to come up down from Pasadena. The drawings are done straight on white and tone paper. Light blue and red pencils for the rough lay in and inked using a brushpen (from Japan) and pisgment pen size .005. I did the highlights using a white color pencil with Presto whiteout pen for that nice stong white. Let me know what you think? Hopefully every one is having a awesome summer.
Lastly, I wanted to update the URL info on the Lightbox blog, it's now, http://www.lightboxplanet.com/
Sorry if some of you got confused for a bit...it was done for a bit before Comic Con. The old URL still works blogger will redirect you. Well, I'll catch you all later. Draw draw draw!

Twitter and Comic-Con
Alright, I broke down and signed up for Twitter. I guess Twitter will be helpful during Comic Con, which is coming up in two weeks. I'll be roaming around the floor all 4.5 days of the Con. If any folks want to meet me and see me do a doodle or two I'll be at the Gnomon booth on Saturday from 3 till who knows. I'll be there to do a taping of myself doing a drawing for Sketch Theatre. I'll also have a some samples of my work with me plus a mock up of sketchbook that I am putting together. Oh yes...I forgot my twit address it's http://twitter.com/pecks13 Hope to see some of you there in San Diego! Well, I am off to teach my class.
Cheers,
Axel

San Diego Comic-Con 2008
Well, here are some pics from my time over at Comic-Con this year. I really enjoyed my time there at the Image booth pushing copies of Krash Bastards and Backspace. I ended up doing quite a few sketches for $20, which was really cool. I also enjoyed talking with people that stopped by my table to check out my stuff.
I do have to say that the floor was crowded all four and half days, it was insane! Mothers pushing strollers and folks on wheel chairs were stuck between walls of geekdom, which was pretty scary and sad at the same time. Something has to be done about that. We're there to enjoy ourselves not to hurt others. Let's see how it goes next year and how the folks that run the Comic Con handle the crowds.

Mike Mignola and myself.

for $24,ooo all this can be yours.

San Diego Comic Con Badges

Hey all, just wanted to post up my old SDCC badge from....1992! That was the year I went to Comic Con for the first time. A bunch of 19 year olds cramped up in a hotel room outside downtown...good times! I also wanted to compare that badge to the one I used this year. I had a pro badge....but don't know where it went. It's been very busy in my end...working on three projects at the moment plus teaching over at Gnomon as well. I'll try to get those pics up of Japan and Comic Con as soon as I get some free time.
