Twitter and Comic-Con

Alright, I broke down and signed up for Twitter. I guess Twitter will be helpful during Comic Con, which is coming up in two weeks. I'll be roaming around the floor all 4.5 days of the Con. If any folks want to meet me and see me do a doodle or two I'll be at the Gnomon booth on Saturday from 3 till who knows. I'll be there to do a taping of myself doing a drawing for Sketch Theatre. I'll also have a some samples of my work with me plus a mock up of sketchbook that I am putting together. Oh yes...I forgot my twit address it's http://twitter.com/pecks13 Hope to see some of you there in San Diego! Well, I am off to teach my class.

Cheers,
Axel

I need some fresh air.

Hey all, here's one of my latest sketches...let me know what you think? I used a ball point pen to sketch out the figure. Then use Photoshop to do the colors. I also used photo reference for this piece as well.

She's a character that needs some air....but is a bit sad siting there as well.

If any of you live in the L.A. area...maybe you can check out Anime Expo http://www.anime-expo.org/ which will be held at the Convention Center this coming week. Maybe I'll see some of you there?

Catch you all later!

a page from my Merida sketchbook

Hey, I wanted to upload a page form my Merida Sketchbook to share with you all. Laid the in first with blue pencil and then inked away using a tech pen sizes 005 and 02. I happen to finish sketching my last page for my Nueva York sketchbook...now it's time for me to decide if I should but together that limited edition sketchbook or not for this year? What do you guys think? I still want to layout a short little story for the sketchbook as well. Hopefully, have it done for the Long Beach Con.

Catch you all later,

Concept Design Academy

Myself and my buddies from Lightbox will be taking a storyboard class over at the Concept Design Academy in Pasadena. Here's a link to the school website,

http://www.conceptdesignacad.com/

Sure, I could have taken the board class over at Gnomon, where I teach. Jay Oliva will be teaching the class and he's a bad ass when it comes to the art of storyboarding. I want to learn from the best. Well time to go now.

even more Creature Sketches

Another round of sketches I did as a demo for my students last Wednesday night. These sketches were done using a dip pen and Sepia ink on tone paper.
I am really looking forward in what the students will be presenting me for the class final next week! I'm thinking in doing a small party...pizza or burgers? Or maybe something nice and healthy?
Did the highlights using white Prismacolor pencil with a touch of white gouache for the highlites. If anyone have any questions about the work feel free to ask.

more Creature Sketches

Hey here's some more sketches from my class project.

Yes, Brian it's very good to just keep your line work loose when you're starting on a drawing. Also no need to have a hard grip on your pen or pencils....you'll feel the difference when you draw. I'll catch you all later.

more Creature Sketches

Used dip pen to sketch out these critters. Then I used ink wash for the bottom sketches and greymarkers for the top sketches to add some tone to them and use a primacolor white pencil and white gouache for the white highlights. I just wanted to illustrate to my students to keep everything loose when trying to figure out a drawing of a character. I'll catch you all later.
